What Is the Silco Consulting Fee?

What Is the Silco Consulting Fee?

If you are not calling about a leak or a clog — if you need a straight answer before you commit money to a layout or a product — one of your first questions is probably: “Do I pay for that conversation?”

Sometimes what you need is not a repair. It is an experienced read on what is possible in your house.

Silco Plumbing charges a consulting fee of $149 an hour for residential plumbing advice only, with no hands-on work.

Here’s when that hour applies, and when the call is still free.

When the Call Is Free

Calling because something is wrong does not start a meter.

Working out what is going on with a water heater, a drain, or your water pressure is part of taking your phone call. Tell us what is wrong, and you get a read on it at no charge.

Not sure which side of that line your question sits on? Ask. That one is free too.

When the Hour Starts

The consulting fee starts when the conversation becomes advice about your project rather than a repair.

Deciding where your plumbing goes, or whether something is possible at all, is judgment work rather than a service call. That is what the $149 an hour buys: residential plumbing advice only, with no hands-on work.

What people use the hour for. Common reasons a homeowner books a consult:

If your question is none of those, ask anyway.

Layouts and Remodels

Where the plumbing goes in your house is easier to change on paper than in a wall. That decision is what the hour is for.

Silco does service and remodel work. Advising on a layout is a separate thing from building the house.

It Is Not a Job Price

A consult is for the decision you are making before there is a job to price. That is a different question from what the work will cost.

If what you want is a sense of what a job costs, the water-heater replacement page and the drain-cleaning cost page go through what drives each number. Neither one is a quote over the phone.

It Is Not a Repair Visit

Nothing is installed, repaired, or adjusted during a consult. You are paying for judgment, and the answer is the same whether or not there is work in it for Silco.

If something is already broken and you want it fixed, that is regular plumbing work.

The consulting fee is separate and does not get reimbursed if work is later bid.

What should you have ready when you call? You don’t need a finished plan. Just tell us what you can:

Can you get the whole answer over the phone? Sometimes. Sometimes the honest answer is that we need to see the house. We will tell you which it is before the paid hour gets away from you.
